New OBA MAP Director Announced

The Oklahoma Bar Association welcomes Julie Bays into her new role as director of the OBA Management Assistance Program. Ms. Bays was recently promoted to this position, taking over for longtime MAP Director Jim Calloway, who retired in May.
Ms. Bays said, "As someone who’s always been passionate about using technology to solve problems, I’m excited to modernize the OBA Management Assistance Program and make it easier for our members to find the tools and guidance they need to manage their practices with confidence."
Ms. Bays has served as the OBA's practice management advisor since November 2018, providing assistance and counsel to attorneys using technology and other tools to efficiently manage their offices. She plays a key role in planning the OBA Solo & Small Firm Conference. She is also involved with the Access to Justice initiatives of the OBA, such as Oklahoma Free Legal Answers. She was co-chair of the Planning Board for ABA TECHSHOW 2025 and continues to serve as a board member for TECHSHOW 2026.
Prior to joining the OBA, she served in the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office beginning in 2002, where she was responsible for prosecuting antitrust and consumer protection cases. She was appointed chief assistant attorney general of the Consumer Protection Unit in 2013. In this role, she traveled the state to educate consumers about identity theft and other types of consumer and internet fraud.
Join OBA CLE on Friday, Oct. 24, for this highly interactive workshop and earn 2 hours of MCLE ethics credit. Presented by the OBA Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, participants will explore the importance of civility in resolving disputes from varying perspectives. Learn and practice communication skills that will allow you to drive consensus and productive conversations while navigating conflicts and disagreements. Whether you’ve been practicing law for a few years or many, and no matter your practice area, you will come away with valuable tools you can immediately put to use.
The 2026 OBA YLD leadership election season is here! Dedicated young lawyers are encouraged to participate in elections. All OBA members in good standing who were admitted to the practice of law 10 years ago or less are members of the YLD. Membership is automatic – if you were first admitted to the practice of law in 2015 or later, you are a member of the OBA YLD.
NOMINATING PROCEDURE
Article 5 of the division bylaws requires that any eligible member wishing to run for office must submit a nominating petition to the Nominating Committee. The petition must be signed by at least 10 members of the OBA YLD and must be submitted by Friday, Aug. 15, at 5 p.m. A separate petition must be filed for each opening, except a petition for a directorship shall be valid for one-year and two-year terms and at-large positions. A person must be eligible for division membership for the entire term for which elected.

The move away from Windows 10 is not optional. After Oct. 14, unsupported systems in your firm will become a liability, technically, ethically and possibly legally. This is more than an IT issue. It could be a risk to client confidentiality, compliance and your ethical duties under OPRC 1.1 and 1.6.
If you haven’t already started planning, now is the time. Check compatibility, inventory your devices and begin budgeting for replacements. Consider this a chance to modernize your tech, improve security and ensure your firm is meeting the standards expected of the legal profession.
Look out for my article, “Outdated and at Risk: Why Lawyers Must Move Beyond Windows 10 Now,” in the August Oklahoma Bar Journal for more details and a step-by-step transition guide.
