The OBA Annual Meeting is an excellent opportunity for networking, learning and fun, but more importantly, it is also a time for us to come together as colleagues and professionals. Online registration for this year's meeting has closed, but walk-in registrants are welcome. Check out the online schedule to view events, activities and OBA CLE opportunities. We hope to see you at the Annual Meeting this week!

Attendees at this year's Annual Meeting can make a splash while supporting a very worthwhile cause! At the conclusion of the House of Delegates meeting on Friday, July 12, OBA President Miles Pringle and other special guests will sit perched atop a tank of ice-cold water, awaiting your best pitch. Donate $5 and get 3 chances to dunk! Proceeds will benefit the Lawyers Helping Lawyers Foundation to support OBA members who are struggling with mental health and addiction challenges.

"Why do we care whether an owner of real property in Oklahoma holds 'marketable record title,' and why do we care that Oklahoma has a large set of Title Examination Standards, adopted by the Oklahoma Bar Association through its House of Delegates?

When a parcel of land is conveyed or encumbered in the state of Oklahoma, the county land records are usually examined to locate deeds, judgments and other instruments to create a chain of title, starting with a patent out of the government and continuing up to the present, covering surface and minerals."

We know OBA members are intelligent, compassionate and dedicated to serving their communities and upholding the rule of law. We also know our members have talents that vary widely beyond the practice of law, and we love featuring your creative work in the Oklahoma Bar Journal!

Have you noticed the amazing works on Oklahoma Bar Journal covers lately? Your art or photography could be featured next! Check out the editorial calendar for ideas on themes, though submissions don't have to be law related.

Your work may also be chosen for the on “The Back Page.” Your submissions – anything from short articles and poems to photography and artwork – may be featured. For details on submitting your work, visit the Oklahoma Bar Journal submissions page.

Submissions are now being accepted for numerous themed topics for the 2025 issues of the Oklahoma Bar Journal. Editors are recruiting authors to write articles in the areas of military and veterans, law practice basics, cannabis law and more. Submission information is available online, and the editorial calendar will connect you with the specific editor for each topic. Contact OBA Communications Director Lori Rasmussen with questions.

The list of applicants for the July 30-31 bar exam has been published online.

The Oklahoma Rules of Professional Conduct impose on each member of the bar the duty to aid in guarding against the admission of candidates unfit or unqualified because of deficiency in either moral character or education.

The Board of Bar Examiners requests that members examine this list and bring to the board’s attention in a signed letter any information that might influence the board in considering the moral character and fitness to practice of any applicant for admission.

Send correspondence to Cary Pirrong, Administrative Director, Oklahoma Board of Bar Examiners, P.O. Box 53036, Oklahoma City, OK 73152.

Today, the combined OBA Annual Meeting, Oklahoma Judicial Conference and Solo & Small Firm Conference begins, followed by our Artificial Intelligence Conference on Friday. One of our traditions at the Solo & Small Firm Conference is a fast-paced session called "60 Tips in 60 Minutes" that will take place on Thursday.

So in the spirit of great legal technology tips, today we share "24 Quick Tech Tips to Try in 2024" from Attorney at Work. The theme of this collection is that the tips are quick and easy to try. Readers are probably familiar with some of them. I particularly encourage No. 1: customizing the Quick Access Toolbar, No. 5: setting Outlook and Word to spellcheck words in all caps and No. 11: zoom in or out on almost any window by using the Ctrl key while scrolling.
